The development of the solid-wood-building method was a research project both of Austrian companies and of the Italian IVALSA research institute. The aim was to examine the ranges of application of solid wood for multi-storey buildings. The bearing structure of the X-LAM made of spruce was thus certified. Its excellent suitability for the building of energy-saving structures, the safety at earthquakes, the fire resistance, the acoustic comfort and its sustainability are characteristic for X-LAM. X-LAM is crosswise-glued spruce "Lamellar" wood, which is between 5 and 30 cm thick. According to the plan the wall parts are cut to size with the openings for doors and windows. They are fixed by means of iron angles, connecting bolts and rails. An additional filling seal is inserted between the walls.
